There are some who don't know Eleanor's story, so here it is. Eleanor's father is Edison the fawn and her mother is Lovely Rita, the fawn pied. This was mother and father's first mating and there was only one baby, Eleanor. We did an X-ray and determined that the baby was way too big to be born naturally so a C section was required. Unfortunately at the time I didn't know any Frenchie knowledgeable vets and the result was the loss of Rita. Well I had bottle fed some puppies before, but only in a supplementary way. I'd never been the sole provider of milk for a baby and its entire life in my hands. I was a nervous wreck and never thought for a second that I could get this baby to stay alive. Being an only baby I worried about her being too cold and lonely. My daughter offered up some beanie babies for siblings and we put our tiny blue baby in a tiny crate with a heat pad. Every time I opened that door, I expected to see her lifeless. I dreaded waking up because I knew I'd find the baby dead! She never cried or made a peep, so I never could tell if she was full, or hungry or scared or cold. The little baby just never said a word,,,,, no grunting, whining, nothing. One night at about 2 weeks old, I woke up and she was GONE FROM HER CRATE ! I just knew she was dead somewhere in the room. I turned on the light and looked everywhere and that baby girl had crawled out of her crate and into my bathroom and was asleep in a pile of laundry!!!!! A trip of about 25 feet total, and never made a peep. Eleanor made the transition from crate to our bed at about 3 weeks of age. She no longer wanted to be alone and would snuggle up in our neck to sleep. Sometimes quite a brat, she would chew our fingers and run around playfully until well past sleep time. To this day , she has slept in a bed with us or our children every night . She is currently in residency in my 14 year old son's room. She won't allow another dog through the doorway and takes all her meals and naps there. When he is at school, she lays in his bed, Head on the PILLOW, until he comes home. She's a weird little dog too. I think because she was raised by people and had no dog interaction until later, she doesn't view herself as a dog. She mostly ignores the other dogs and tries to have constant HUMAN companionship. It will be interesting to see how she adapts to motherhood. I'm not sure she'll have clue one what to do with babies. We are pensively awaiting her babies........... and pray to God that all goes well this time.
